Individual Counseling FAQ

What is Individual Counseling?

Individual therapy is a helpful process for treating mental health concerns or life challenges by meeting with a state licensed, pre-licensed, or intern mental health professional. During the therapeutic process you learn about your needs, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. By talking with a trained therapist you can feel empowered, take control of your life, and respond to your circumstances in healthy ways.

How does Individual Counseling work?

At Maverick Marriage Therapy we begin by building an authentic relationship with you to explore, identify, and refine your ultimate goals for individual counseling. These are then discussed openly, mutually agreed upon by client and therapist.

When is Individual Counseling needed?

Therapy can be helpful in treating mental health concerns, such as:

  • Anxiety disorders like PTSD, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

  • Mood disorders, including depression or bipolar disorder

  • Addictions, including alcoholism, drug dependence, or compulsive shopping and gambling

  • Personality disorder, specifically borderline personality disorder and dependent personality disorder

Additionally, you do not need a mental health diagnosis to benefit from individual therapy. Therapy can be a great resource for those experiencing life stressors, such as:

  • Relationship issues

  • Conflicts in relationships or at work

  • Coping with major life events, such as divorce, death, loss, or abuse

  • Managing triggers and trauma reactions

  • Processing a difficulty family history

  • Recovery from abuse, physical, emotional, or sexual

  • Coping with a serious physical health diagnosis

  • Sleep issues, like insomnia

How much does Individual Counseling cost?

Cost is dependent on your therapist’s experience, session length, and whether you are in need of a sliding scale or not. Maverick Marriage Therapy does not accept insurance, but your therapist can provide a Superbill to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company to discuss this possibility further.

How long does the Individual Counseling process take?

Individual Counseling can last from six months to two years, depending on the client's concerns and needs.

How do I know if Individual Counseling is right for me?

If you are experiencing stress or any symptoms impacting your life individual counseling can be a great resource to assist you in healing and moving forward in a healthy way. Psychotherapy can be as effective as medications, such as antidepressants. It can be beneficial to explore painful feelings and experiences in the presence of a safe and non-judgemental third party who can provide tools to help. You can gain helpful coping skills to help you deal with life’s challenges in a healthy way.
