Hi, I’m Nia. I’m one of the therapists here at Maverick Marriage Therapy. I believe every individual has the skills within themselves to achieve the healing and betterment they desire. However, I also understand that as human beings, sometimes no matter how hard we try, we can get stuck in our problems, and solutions may seem unachievable. I am here to offer hope and a guiding hand, helping you access the change you wish to see, whether that be within yourself or the relationships in your life.

  • Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy

  • AMFT applied for

  • Approaches: Narrative, EFT, CBT

Experience
  • I earned my Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Women's Gender and Sexuality from Georgia State University. I then went on to earn a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Valdosta State University.

  • My intern experience included FamilyWorks Clinic in Valdosta where I worked with many people in the community (problems including domestic violence, developmental delays, mental disorders, addiction, life changes, depression, anger issues, and more).

  • I also interned at Raintree Village Foster Care in Valdosta working as a group therapy facilitator for fostered youth (focusing on problems with addiction, conflict resolution, future planning, and trauma)

  • I enjoy helping couples that are struggling to adjust with external circumstantial issues or life changes, individuals who are in a relationship where the other partner is unwilling to change or seek help, and those who are eager to truly learn about themselves and their partners.

  • Describe me as “authentic” “patient and kind” “personable”

  • Are couples experiencing an uncomfortable season, feeling unseen or misunderstood, searching for ways to reconnect with one another

  • Are often free-thinkers. Frustrated with the narratives they live within that don’t quite fit their personal ideologies or vision for their life

  • Are often exhausted, fed-up, looking for a safe space to breathe, relinquish, and heal

My Christian faith is a meaningful part of who I am and guides the compassion and care I bring into therapy. I welcome clients from all walks of life, and for those who wish, I am glad to offer faith-based therapy that weaves spiritual values into the healing process.

Hands in the Soil
  • Collaborative/Solution-Focused: I believe you are the expert of your own life. I am here to empower and walk alongside you, offering my professional knowledge in the art of change and healing, as we work together toward your goals. I believe therapy is a collaborative effort, requiring the skills and commitment of all parties involved.

  • Systemic/Relational: I explore how problems exist beyond just the individual. How do the past and present interactions of your family, friends, social groups, work-life, childhood, etc… work together to contribute to the problems you are experiencing? And how can we create new patterns and relationships that allow you to thrive instead?

Approach

I am a creative (mostly poetry and music), an old soul, a Christian, a dog mom, an Atlanta native, a dedicated wife to my loving and supportive best friend and husband, and I am extremely family oriented. I love to enjoy life and experience new things and although often times I fall short, I strive to be the best version of myself every day.
